I used a Service Magic contractor and the experience was terrible. First off, he advised me he pays a fee to Service Magic which is passed along to me in addition to the Service Call! That made just the service call $30 more than if I had called hime direct. Second, when I asked whether he had Liability Insurance he said that Service Magic DID NOT require that type of insurance for the work I was having him do. I was nervous the whole time as I was now doubting whether the guy was even a “Qualified” contractor as SM advertises. I later found out since the furnace he was working on failed again six weeks later and he wouldn’t come back out!!! I wouldn’t touch Service Magic or their contractors with a ten foot pole!!!!

I recently hired Patterson Construction Group,Inc. to replace an existing patio door. I must say I was extremely pleased and satisfied with the quality of the work and the time it took to install it. They were very professional and even hauled off the old door! I also had a couple other small projects done as well and am very happy with everything they did for me. I definately would use them again! Thank you Service Magic !!

I recently used a pest control company located in Brooklyn, NY. They have been professional,thorough,and stood by their service. I highly recommend their company for the New York City area. The only problem I have is on the Service Magic website in that I can not write this review directly in the Company’s listing.The Service Magic website has reflected the high quality of this company.

I used the above contractor to assemble my 4 year old basketball set. When I contacted Mr. Ramsey he came out that evening to view the set and give me as estimate. He charged me $40.00 to assemble. He scheduled to come out the next day to asemeble. When he arrived he got right to work. It took him and one of his employees about 2 hours to assemble. They had to be called back out to lower the rim, because it was too high. I called him over the weekend and he returned my call and rescheduled for Tuesday to come out to lower it. He didn’t charge me any additional fees either. I found him to be very courtesy. Working with Mr. Ramsey was like meeting an old firend. I would definately use him again for other home improvement jobs.

Service Magic is a great service!

We had just hired Mike Gavranovic from American Heating & Cooling to install a new furnace for us and not only was he on time but he beat all the other guys prices! He took his time & explained everything to us. We will definately use/recommend him again!

Service Magic referred me to A-1 MAbetex. Around March 2009 I called A-1 Mabetex Roofing regarding water leakage during rain at my place of residence. At the time of the call I was unable to reach a live voice but within 30 minutes I received a return phone call with an apology for the voice message. At the time it was raining and I was told, unfortunately nothing could be done till it stops raining. Later, the same evening I received a call from Erolind Dumani. I told him of my history with his company. The next morning he visited my home and inspected the roof, he noticed the entire roof had blisters both broken and unbroken. He told me the apparent problem and suggested I invoke my warranty rights. He told me how I should do it but suggested, perhaps a telephone call may speed the process. I made the telephone call and a package or kit is being forwarded to me to proceed in taking advantage of the warranty.

After explaining the problem to me, it was obvious through the explanation that the water leak was not the result of workmanship on behalf of A-1 Mabaetex Roofing. A-1 Mabetex Roofing repaired the area of concern and gave me instructions to replace the bat after the board dries.

I am thankful there are still companies like A-1 Mabetex Roofing where owners and employees have superior integrity and knowledge. I found the owner to be knowledgeable, cordial and tempered with conservatism. I highly recommend this company to any consumer who may need service beyond what is expected today. On a scale from 1 to 5 with five being the best, A_1 Mabetex Roofing rates a 5 plus. Thank you.

“One of our better decisions was to strike up a relationship with Erolind Lino Dumani at A-1 Mabetex Roofing and their fine staff in the re-roofing project at our residence. Our past experience in having a residence re-roofed was not a good one and the recent installation of a new roof was a shining experience of things that can go right and it is certainly pleasing to be able to report that you have another totally satisfied customer.

We very much appreciate the fact all went well, the staff was super helpful and the crew on the roof were professionals who toiled through two of the hottest days of the summer – one heck of a job.

The plan went without a hitch, the communications were just great, the double checking by their team was super, and the after job clean up was first class. A customer could not ask any roofing company for anything more.

Thru service majic we met Mr. Kelly on a job in Aptos, CA. He met at job site, clean, neat and extremely business like and professional. He viewed work needed and came back to us with a complete bid and explained the complete contract in detail. He did exactly what he said and how he specified, actually went over and above scope of contract. Many times when you get a good price you give up quality and timing of project, not so with Kelly construction. When he said I ran into whatever, he would send you pictures via text or email as well as video during all repairs under contract. How many times did you ask yourself or have someone mention to you (do you think that was really necessary) he just eliminates the question mark – what a breath of fresh air.

We will not only highly recommend Kelly Contruction, when we do our next project in the area he will be our first call.

Don’t waste your time with ServiceMagic. I got scammed over $900 by a contractor from ServiceMagic. They have a service guarantee of $500 which I filled a compliant to recoup but it was soon obvious that their intention was never to help me recoup my money but to prove the contractor’s innocence. Their contractor screening is a joke and their service guarantee is completely bogus. Use Angie’s List instead.

I recently used ServiceMagic (SM) to hire an HVAC contractor for a property I own. The contractor was awful and SM did nothing to resolve the problem (Over Charged, poor work, never fixed the problem. I had to hire a different company to come fix the problem).

About a week after the work had been done I was asked to write a review. In my review I wrote about both the contractor and ServiceMagic itself. The review was professional and well written, and included facts about both of them. There were no vulgarities, inappropriate remarks, just the facts as I experienced them.

Three or four days later I received an e-mail telling me that my review was “Inappropriate” and was being removed. I contacted them to ask why and they did not respond. So I filed a complaint with the BBB.

SM them contacted me to say they would re-post the review WITHOUT the comments about themselves. I was aghast! For a company to refuse to post a review that has negative comments about itself smacks of a violation of Freedom of Speech.

I did allow them to re-post because that contractor was awful. But have refused to call the case accepted with the BBB.

I would strongly recommend that no one use any ServiceMagic contractor until the company is willing to allow users of their service to freely and accurately review their practices.
