I have no rats so I cannot assess its performance in that category. I have seen one dead roach so far. I don't know if a house must be tightly shut at all times for this to work optimally but we live in the Caribbean so it is almost impossible to do so. She always swore by these through the late 90's. Seemed to work until the two she had started making hissing noises after 8 years. I unplugged the devices and began to notice a difference. Just got two more (12/10). Put one in my house, and I REALLY am going to test it by putting one in my garage/shed. It is FULL of brown recluse spiders amoung others. I know what recluse spiders look like, and I am somewhat afraid of going into my garage/shed while I will pick up a Copperhead, seriously. I will let you know how it works in my garage/shed.
