I saw a late-night infomercial a long time ago for the Iron Gym pull up bar, and it looked pretty good.
But lately I’ve been trying to get more active so I can actually keep my weight in control. So I decided to give the Iron Gym a try.
I thought I might goof around with the Iron Gym then give it to one of my guy friends after I got bored with it. I was surprised when I got it and actually really found it straightforward and a little fun!
It feels so good to really get your muscles going, but I hardly have the time to go to the gym or jog outside. I usually use some little free weights that I got at a garage sale a while back, but even after working out, it didn’t seem like they did anything. I found that the Iron gym really helped me get an intense workout without taking a long time.
The first time I used it, it was quite apparent that the bar was designed by someone in the military, there is nothing you don’t need, but all the features you could want in a compact little thing.
I used the Iron Gym As Seen on TV (of course) to find a good routine for myself:
- I hang the bar from my door and do two kinds of pull ups
- I drop the bar on the floor and do crunches
- I do as many pushups as I can after I can’t do any more crunches
- Finally, I go back to crunches to really target my midsection
This all takes less than 15 minutes and really helps me get my blood going in the morning before work.
Sometimes, I also use the Iron Gym Ab Straps to do some floating crunches after work. But they’re super intense, so I’ve got to have a lot of energy after work.
Once I’m done working out, I just put the Iron Gym bar behind my door and go on with my day. Best of all, it didn’t mess up my doors or need to be mounted.
I really can’t recommend it enough, you could even bring it into the office for a quick lunch-break workout to battle the mid-afternoon slump.

I have had the iron gym for about a month. I previously had the Gold’s Pull-up Bar, which looks similar, but did not fit in my doorway and returned it. This product does work well for pull-ups, chin-ups, and with the ab-straps (which I purchased separately) you can get an ab workout. The two main problems I found with the product are:
1) It has only one (not very substantial) metal safety wedge, which is supposed to secure the bar in place above the door frame. My frame is very narrow and the bar does hang over quite a bit. This safety wedge is inefficient. The Iron Gym should come with at least 3 or 4 of these metal safety wedges. I tried to find a store that handles the wedges and contacted the distributor, but no one seems to be able to give me any info. on how to purchase additional safety wedges.
2) The protective black sleeves on the bars that are supposed to protect the door frame from damage when using the Iron Gym are insufficent. After less than a month of use they are deteriorating and falling off. This is another item that the stores handling the product or the distributor should have available for purchase.

Guys, I’ve finally tried the Iron Gym…I love it.
Though, I couldn’t do the pull ups, since I don’t have an appropriate door to do them on!
MY boyfriend’s going to get a strong bar to put on top of my door, so I can do the pull ups.
Best thing about this product is the fact that it comes with the Ab Straps! They are not shipped seperately. Guess being in South Afica has its perks…Lol
Will keep u all posted on my exercise results…give me a month. Ciao!

Guys, I bought the Iron Gym today, after reading your reviews. It was a toss between the iron gym and the Hip Hop Abs.
I went for the Iron Gym. So, I’ll try it out tonight and tell you all about it later.
It only cost me R199 (South African rand), which is not too much, it’s rather quiet affordable!

Just bought this pull up bar at target. Can only do 1 pull-up right now so I bought it so I can build up my strength and tone upper body. I tried every hand position and this is awesome. I love it. The dips weren’t doing much for me so I got creative. I placed the bar on a chair, placed my feet up on a bed (you can use another chair or a stepping stool) to increase the intensity and bam, I had a great tricep workout. Pullups are my greatest weakness so I’m looking forward to being able to do 10

I love this gym, I got it for Christmas, its been almost two weeks I’ve gained close to 5 lbs of muscle, my goal is 200 lbs by the end of this coming summer and I’m sure that this gym will get me there, I only have 25 lbs to go! I’m putting in somewhere close to hour of time with this thing a day! Love it! Thank you Iron Gym!

THE BEST!!!! I CAN’T EXPRESS ENOUGH TO YOU HOW IN LOVE I’M IN WITH THIS PULL UP BAR.
I LOST MY JOB SOME TIME LAST YEAR AND HAD TO CUT EXPENSES SO THE $68 A MONTH MEMBERSHIP HAD TO GO. I WENT TO MODELLS AND BOUGHT TWO 25LBS DUMBBELLS, THE IRON GYM AND THE PERFECT PUSHUP. NOW I HAVE A LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP FOR $120. THE COMBINATION IS GREAT!
THE IRON GYM IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD HAVE IN YOUR HOME. KEEP IT UP WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT, AND YOU’LL END UP DOING 5-10 CHIN UPS AND THAT AMOUNT WILL INCREASE ONCE YOU CONTINUE ON A REGULAR BASIS.
IT’S ALL ABOUT CONSISTENCY!

I bought an Iron Gym at my local sporting goods store. The system works really well and took about 5 minutes or so to put together once out of the box.
It definitely gives you the various angles to work all the muscles involved in your back, traps, biceps etc..
I do agree that it does take a little while to receive the ab straps in the mail, and one who likes to get an extra burn could actually do floating crunches while maintaining a flexed bicep muscle.
The only issue i have had with the iron gym is it seems to be limited to somebody under 6’2″ or so, I am 6’5″ but luckily have shorter torso for my height and the system works well.
I do recommend it definitely for the price and ease of setup as well as storage.

I just got this item today and I couldn’t be more pleased! The assembly was extremely simple and took about 5 minutes tops. Everything is as easy as it says. The bar fits perfectly and is surprisingly sturdier than I had expected. One thing to note is that it doesn’t fit in my closet doorway, which is 3′ wide (I believe the bar goes up to 32″ wide). I was a little nervous about the door frame breaking, but I’m not anymore. I only weigh 150 lbs., but after my 190 lbs. roommate was able to do it, I felt pretty safe. In addition, doing push-ups with the bar is, to me, a hidden bonus. I just thought, oh, I can do push-ups on it, no big deal, but the handles allow you to perform much lower push-ups; 10 push-ups with this felt like 30 on the ground. Sit-ups seem to work well (putting your feet under the bar for leverage), and dips are okay. You can’t get too much motion with dips on this, but it still works.
One thing to note: I bought mine through Walgreens, and I would suggest anyone else do the same thing. The price is the same, but you don’t have to pay S&H and you don’t have to wait for delivery. Also, I heard of people having issues when ordering from TV.

i had seen these on tv as well and i thought what a great idea! so i was strolling through the “bed, bath and beyond” the other day and there it was. i bought it immediatly. so at home i put it all together and proceeded to put it to use. what a great upper body work out my abs are sore today and also my triceps and biceps. i believe in no time i can achieve the upper body strength i have been looking to achieve with this nifty machine. my only complaint is the ab straps have to be ordered seperatly, supposedly “free” but 8.99 shipping and handling. so here i sit slummed next to the mail box waiting for my mail man to arive…

I received an Iron Gym for Christmas from my son. I am going to be 60 next month. I cannot actually do a pull-up, but I use a chair to help with some of the pressure and I do it that way. It is amazing! I’m sure that I am using muscles that have never been used before. My husband and I have it hanging in a doorway to the dining room and because we see it all the time, we remember to use it. What a great, inexpensive way to work on muscles.
